Vision
To provide hope for the people of eastern North Carolina
Financial Overview
In 2022, $8 million in gifts and grants were received from our generous donors, supporting education, capital projects, and patient support among many other program needs.
The Foundation distributed over $6 million in funding to ECU Health and other mission-driven programs during that same period.
Thanks to the generous support the Foundation receives from ECU Health, we are able to direct 100 percent of each donation directly to the program or area designated by each donor. We are humbled by your continued commitment to the health and well-being of your community. Your support has been vital to the advancement of health care across eastern North Carolina.

January 2022
2022 marked the beginning of one of the most historical years in our health system's history. In January, Vidant Health and the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine officially began the joint operating agreement to form ECU Health. The agreement provides a structure that allows the two organizations to more effectively and efficiently address current issues facing the region - such as health disparities and care delivery obstacles - while also anticipating future health care and educational needs
In April, the new logo was revealed which captures the essence of an innovative health system comprised of more than 13,000 dedicated health care workers, a thriving university, current and future generations of doctors committed to caring for North Carolina and the unwavering commitment of two organizations working collaboratively to transform the East.
Over the next year, the Vidant Health Foundation will also evolve to reflect philanthropic alignment to support the mission of ECU Health.

Promoting prevention, early detection and early treatment of cancer is a priority for the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center and ECU Health Beaufort Hospital. In fiscal year 2022, the center hosted three free mammogram clinics and one free low-dose CT lung cancer screening clinic, specifically for the uninsured, screening over 30 people who otherwise may not have had these much needed cancer screenings. Donations made to the Shepard Cancer Center provide the needed funds to offer these screenings to our community. In addition, we participated in 40+ community health events, with over half offered on our donor-funded Community Health Improvement Coach. Through these events, over 650 wellness screenings were provided.
Gifts to the Shepard Cancer Center also support efforts to improve the mind, body and spirit of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. Complementary therapies such as massage and support programs such as art therapy and journaling are examples of programs funded by generous donations to the Center.
